Daytour
with Mark
A day’s touring in the Andalusian countryside was an ideal
way to escape from the crowds and the traffic along the coast.
Although the hottest time of year (mid August), once underway
the slipstream keeps you cool. I was happy to follow the lead
Jac set on his 1977 Honda Goldwing. His line round the bends
was always easy to follow and not worth trying to improve upon.
I was much impressed by the standard of his riding and his enthusiasm
and knowledge of motorcycles. I was on the 600cc Yamaha Diversion
which had more than enough pace to cope with the mountain roads.
Jac is the ideal companion for such an excursion, having an
excellent knowledge of the history, flora and fauna of the region.
He also knows the roads and can take you by the best route to
places you’d never otherwise get to. We stopped along
the way at picturesque Spanish ‘white villages’
such as Alhaurin el Grande, Aloziana and Álora. We took
lunch at the Bar Paco in Ardales village square where the tapas
are good and the prices are a third of those you encounter on
the coast. This is a great way to see rural Spain. Recommended.
